My work has been featured in the Coloradoan as well as taking 3rd place small color at the Southern CO Arts Expo in Pueblo CO 2005. I prescribe to no one style, prefering instead to tailor the look of the tattoo to the vision of each client. Although, I do have a preference for script and traditional americana. I have been involved in multi-artist showings at locations such as the Bean Cycle in Fort Collins, and the Estes Park conference Center.
I began my legitemate efforts in tattoo in 2002. Before that beginning in 1995, it was various stages of dong it the wrong way, tho always with an effort to do it right. I did it wrong mainly do to my mentors ignorance at the time and my own naivete'. I began getting tattoos from the guy who ended up apprenticing me just out of high school, the wrong way. There were only two tattoo shops in my home town and for some reason it never occured to me to actually go into one of them. So that's all I knew, as he learned more I learned more. Then in 2002 after 9 years of doing it 'on the weekends' he opened a shop. Luckily for me it was also when I was finally ready to commit to learning to tattoo for real and not just haphazardly.
In 2005, after three years I realized what tattooing could actually be about and left behind a shop that was getting me nowhere. I went back to school and took classes on drawing, design, painting, printmaking, art history, and business oriented subjects as well. All the while planning and working toward opening my own shop. One focused on art as well as tattoo. I opened my shop Katalist Konsepts in May 2007. Tho I'm still taking classes to further my knowledge and abilities.
Northern CO was devoid of any real tattoo culture until recently. Even now it is still in rather infant stages. I like to think that myself and those who tattoo in my shop can help that culture to grow!
